Keeping Children Safe

Thanks to you and Mountain Rose Herbs, we met our goal to raise $1,000 online to support our “Keeping Children Safe” campaign!

We still hope to raise a total of $5,000 for this important work, so please consider donating today!

Summertime is ending and kids are heading back to school. They will be exposed to pesticides at school, in parks and at homes, until we educate more people about the dangers they face. Children are especially vulnerable to pesticides and their very behaviors increase the likelihood of pesticide exposure, such as spending more time in the grass and dirt where pesticides are often applied. Children’s bodies are not fully developed, making them more sensitive to pesticide exposures. In spite of this knowledge, these toxic chemicals remain in widespread use. That’s why NCAP is working hard on a new campaign to keep children safe. We are focusing on reducing pesticide exposure around the places our children live, learn and play.

Where Children Live For more than 30 years, NCAP has provided science-based, credible information on alternatives to pesticides to use in your home when you have a weed or pest problem. Check out the hundreds of fact sheets and discover ways to keep your home pesticide-free!

Where Children Learn NCAP has teamed up with partners across Oregon to reduce pesticide use in school. A new law was recently passed in Oregon that requires all Oregon school districts to establish Integrated Pest Management (IPM) policies by 2012. In the upcoming year, we will help school districts across the state establish strong IPM policies, complete an IPM-in-schools pilot project and initiate a statewide effort to help all 198 school districts create strong IPM policies.

Where Children Play NCAP is continuing to build a strong pesticide-free parks program, making neighborhood parks safe for families and pets to play. We now have more than 80 pesticide-free parks in the Northwest. Is your park one of them? Make our kids’ future brighter and join NCAP and our work today. Click here to give now.
